Latvian Literature is considered to start in the 19th Century.

Before we can find signs of the Latvian written language, there is an important tradition passing along in the form of folk songs, that still exist. The first written book of Songs was by Juris Alunans, in the 19th Century, but also from these times, we have Lāčplēsis, the national epic.

From Latvian Literature we will present the work of two poets: Rainis and Aspazija.
