Slovak Literature

It is the literature produced in Slovakia. The first literaty compositions are dated from the times of Great Moravia (9th Century), with authors as Saint Cyril, Saint Methodius and Clement of Ohrid. The literature compositions from this period are of religious character. From the 11th to the 15th Century, lyric poetry still was influenced by the Church, but epic poetry was centered in the transmision of legends.

Literature of a national character emerged in the 16th century. First printed book from this period is The Book of Oaths, by Vašek Zaleský.

Along the centuries, Slovak literature reflects the different changes occurring in Europe.
